Owner & General Contractor: Clayton Construction Company
Clayton Construction Company’s new headquarters in downtown Spartanburg represents both a milestone and a homecoming. Originally constructed by Clayton in 2016, the building became the company’s permanent headquarters in 2023, reflecting its continued growth and long-term vision in the Upstate.
Founded in 1981, Clayton Construction Company has grown from a small general contracting firm into one of the Southeast’s most respected commercial builders. Their portfolio spans healthcare, retail, multifamily, and church projects, with a reputation built on consistency, quality, and trusted relationships.
When Clayton Construction had the opportunity to purchase the downtown Spartanburg building they originally constructed in 2016, the decision aligned naturally with their long-term plans. The move in 2023 placed the company at the center of the community they help build.
“When Harry and I bought the company in 2017, we always envisioned being downtown,” said Todd Horne. “Now, we’re right in the middle of it all, sharing lunch spots, being part of the energy. It’s where we belong.”
Hodge Floors was honored to work alongside Clayton Construction on this meaningful project. While the two companies have partnered on many projects over the years, contributing to Clayton’s own headquarters carried special significance. The completed space reflects the craftsmanship, permanence, and pride that define Clayton Construction’s work across the Southeast.
